Commission: Sacristans serve God and support the liturgies and sacraments of the Cathedral by preparing the altar, the sacred articles, and the vessels associated with the sacraments.
Function: Sacristans keep the Tabernacle and sacristy secure. They set up before the Mass and purify the sacred vessels after the weekday and weekend Masses. They may be requested to assist at baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Sacristans ensure the altar servers, the readers, ushers, gift bearers, and the Extraordinary Ministers are in place and ready to serve before Mass begins.
Candidates: Members must be registered parishioners, be approved by the pastor, be active, practicing Catholic, and have the desire to serve our Lord.
Meetings: No formal meetings are scheduled. The pastor schedules meetings as needed to instruct and update on Liturgical worship practices.
Training/Preparation: The sacristan coordinator trains new members.
