Commission:

Lay ministers offer spiritual comfort while encouraging & enabling family participation in planning & celebrating the funeral liturgy of a loved one. This ministry provides support on a periodic basis for one year culminating with remembering their loved ones at a special Mass on All Souls Day each year.

Function:

Collaborates with the clergy, family, and funeral director to arrange funeral service in keeping with the family’s wishes and in accord with the Catholic Funeral Rite and tradition. The Lazarus Ministry team arranges the sacred space in a respectful and aesthetic style that accommodates the friends and family of the honored deceased. The ministry collaborates with other ministries to provide hospitality and accommodate the special needs of those attending the service. Provides information on resources for finding support during the time of bereavement.

Candidate:

Compasstionate listener. A desire to serve. A humble spirit open to following standards of practice and Diocesan and USCCB guidelines.

Meetings:

Orientation period with follow-up consultation; Ministry updates schedules as needed.

Training & Preparation:

Ministry Leader will interview and provide orientation and training candidate.
